Terms and conditions

Acceptance of these terms

These terms and conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of transcriptyou.com ("TranscriptYou", "the Service", "we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, do not use the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version, and continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes we will post a notice on the site for a reasonable period.

What the Service does

TranscriptYou converts publicly available YouTube subtitle tracks into readable, timestamped transcripts and, where offered, AI-generated summaries. The Service reads caption data that already exists on the source platform; it does not host video or audio content, does not perform its own speech recognition, and cannot access private, members-only, or otherwise restricted videos.

TranscriptYou is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, or any video platform. All product names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

The Service is currently provided free of charge and without user accounts. We may introduce optional paid features in the future; if we do, separate terms will apply to them and will be presented before any payment is taken.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of others. In particular, you agree not to:

  • use transcripts or summaries in ways that violate copyright or other rights of the video creators;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure;
  • use automated tools to scrape or bulk-query the Service beyond its intended interactive use;
  • circumvent rate limits or other technical protection measures;
  • use the Service to process content that is unlawful in your jurisdiction.

We may suspend or block access, including by IP address or region, where we reasonably believe these rules are being violated.

Intellectual property

Video content, subtitle tracks, and the transcripts derived from them belong to their respective creators and rights holders. TranscriptYou does not claim any ownership of the content you process through the Service, and obtaining a transcript through the Service does not grant you any license to the underlying content.

You are responsible for how you use the text you obtain. Personal use — study, research, accessibility, note-taking — is generally unproblematic; republishing or commercial use of someone else's content may require permission from the rights holder.

The Service itself — its design, interface text, code, and branding — is our property and may not be copied or reused without our written consent.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.

Transcript accuracy depends on the quality of the source subtitle track. Auto-generated captions can contain errors, and AI-generated summaries are an automated interpretation of the transcript — they may omit context or misstate details. Always verify important information against the original video.

We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available for any particular video, and we may change or discontinue features at any time.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TranscriptYou and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim — which, while the Service is free, is zero. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

Changes to the Service and these Terms

We are actively developing TranscriptYou: features may be added, changed, or removed without prior notice. If we introduce paid features, we will present their terms clearly before any payment is taken.
