TranscriptYou turns YouTube videos into transcripts and AI summaries. You can use the Service without creating an account, and we collect as little personal data as the Service allows.

This policy explains what data we process, why we process it, on what legal bases, who else is involved, how long data is kept, and what rights you have. If anything is unclear, reach us through the contact form.

Video links you paste. The URL is used to fetch the corresponding subtitle track and render your transcript. Requests pass through our processing infrastructure with standard technical metadata (IP address, user agent) used for abuse prevention; we do not build a per-person history of the links you process. Contact form data. If you write to us we store your name, email address, and message so we can reply, and the message may be delivered to our inbox and internal team chat. Technical logs. Like every website, our servers record request logs (IP address, user agent, requested path, status). Logs are used for security, rate limiting, and debugging. Cookies and local storage. Strictly necessary cookies (session, CSRF), a consent cookie storing your cookie choices, and local storage for interface preferences such as the color theme. For visitors in the EU/EEA, UK, and Switzerland, analytics cookies are set only with your consent; elsewhere they are enabled by default and you can opt out at any time — see the cookies section below.

We use the data above to operate the Service (process your requests and render results), to protect it (rate limiting, abuse and fraud prevention), to answer your messages, and to understand aggregate usage through analytics so we can improve the product — subject to the regional cookie rules and the opt-out described in the cookies section below.

We do not sell personal data, we do not run third-party advertising on the Service, and we do not use your data to train AI models.

For visitors in the EU/EEA and UK, our legal bases under the GDPR are: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) for operating, securing, and rate-limiting a free public web service, including technical logs; consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for analytics and any future marketing cookies, collected through the cookie banner and revocable at any time; and steps prior to a contract / legitimate interest for handling messages you send us through the contact form.

Google Analytics 4 — used for aggregate usage statistics. We run it in Google's Consent Mode with regional defaults. For visitors in the EU/EEA, UK, and Switzerland, no analytics cookies are set and no identifiers are collected until you accept them via the cookie banner. In other regions analytics is enabled by default, and you can switch it off at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer. Whenever analytics is off, at most anonymous, cookieless signals reach Google — they contain no identifiers, are not linked to you, and are used only for aggregate statistical modeling. Hosting and network providers — our servers and content delivery infrastructure process request metadata (such as IP addresses) as any hosting provider does. Transcript processing infrastructure — video URLs you submit are processed by our transcript API to fetch subtitle data from the source platform. Slack and email — contact form messages may be delivered to our team inbox and internal Slack workspace so we can respond.

We do not embed advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, or remarketing tags.

We group cookies into three categories. Necessary — session and CSRF cookies plus the consent cookie itself; these are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. Analytics — Google Analytics cookies. In the EU/EEA, UK, and Switzerland they are set only if you choose "Accept all" or enable them in the settings; in other regions they are on by default and you can switch them off at any time. Marketing — reserved for the future; no marketing cookies are currently used.

Your choice is stored in a consent cookie for 12 months. You can change it at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer.

Server request logs are kept for up to 30 days and then deleted. Contact form messages are kept for up to 24 months so we can follow up on past conversations, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. The consent cookie lives for 12 months. Analytics data is retained under Google Analytics settings for up to 14 months in aggregate form.

Transcripts are rendered in your browser on demand; we do not maintain a stored library of the transcripts you request tied to your identity.

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact form. Because we hold very little identifiable data, please include the approximate dates and the IP address or email involved so we can locate what relates to you. We respond within 30 days.

California residents (and residents of states with similar laws) have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

We do not sell personal information for money. Analytics cookies may qualify as "sharing" under the CPRA's broad definition; you can opt out at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out.

The Service is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
